Group 1 : SS (Swept source) FF (Full field) Anterior segment AS-OCT – images entire width of AS, including both anterior segment angles (width of field 12 -16 mm), this allows to measure the position of structures within the anterior segment (using frontal plane as reference)
Topcon – DRI OCT Triton
Heidelberg Engineering – Anterion
Zeiss – Plex Elite 9000
Tomey – Cassia 2 (Swept-source AS-OCT and Placido)
CSO – MS-39
Group 2 : “Anterior Angle OCT” – images only one anterior angle at the time (width of field 6-8mm), this does not allow to measure the position of structures within the anterior segment (using frontal plane as reference )
Optovue – RTVue / Avanti / AngioVue
Nidek – RS 3000 OCT retina scan
Consider following criteria, when you buy AS-OCT:
Width of field (6, 8, 12, 16 mm) - can you measure horizontal distances such as WTW, STS, RTR, ITI
Depth of field (all AS in one image or not) - can you measure vertical distance such as ACD, RD, ID
(SS) Swept source vs (SD) Spectral domain - affects resolution
Speed of imaging (60, 75,100,200 or more kHz) – affects resolution
Wavelength (around 850nm or 1050nm) – affects resolution and depth of field
Is the instrument Mobile ? Do you need to use it in satellite offices ?
Price (basic module, add-ons, after trade-in)
